After a very long few weeks, our move is almost complete.  Just a few last minute donations and a smidgen of packing (not to mention finishing up with cleaning the apartment) and voila!  It’s been exhausting but fun.  We’ve gotten rid of so much that we didn’t need or want, it just feels like a weight lifted off my shoulders.  Despite that…I really hope this is the last move for a while.  Almost 4 years of marriage and this is our 4th move.

The previous moves have all been us ‘upgrading’ our apartment.  Moving to larger and larger apartments, not because we needed to, but because we couldn’t bear to part with all the stuff we were collecting.  Now we’re moving back into a smaller apartment (smaller than we’ve ever lived in, actually) and it feels great because we CAN!  There are no worries about whether everything will fit!  Wow!

Well, I’ve been working hard and I’ve still got a lot to do tomorrow (plus a visit to the vet) so I’m off to bed.

It’s kind of scary!  I’ve been living in this small town for the last eight years, lived in a very small town for the eight years before that, and then numerous other small towns for the years before that.  Needless to say, but of course I’m going to anyway, I’m a little nervous.  Overwhelmed.  Excited.  Nervous.  Did I mention nervous?

My husband and have been living in a fairly decent-sized two bedroom apartment and we’re ‘down-grading’ to a one bedroom in the City.  For the last week and a half I’ve been going through everything we own and deciding whether we really need it.  I was completely clueless about how much stuff we had.  Just stuff.  Stuff in boxes that hadn’t been opened in four years.  Stuff stuffed in the back of cabinets and drawers.  Stuff, stuff, stuff.  Most of it was hand-me-down items from when we first got married.  You know, the things people give you that you have no need for but you hang on to it because you feel guilty for even considering getting rid of it.

Add to that the fact that my husband is very sentimental about things.  ”Oh, I couldn’t get rid of that because my mother made that!”  Nevermind the fact that said mother made it, hated the way it turned out, and so dumped it on us.  I’ve had to do most of the culling while DH is at work so that he won’t freak out when something gets put in the “Donate” box.  The Salvation Army has already come once to pick up about 200 pounds of miscellany in perfectly good, if not brand new, condition.

I have to say it’s liberating.  Freeing myself (and my husband) of boxes and boxes of things that we just keep moving with us that we don’t really want or even need.  It feels a lot like starting over.  A new city, new people, new apartment, and a lot less baggage…literally.

Of course, thank you to Flylady for helping me keep my sanity.  I’d been slowly decluttering for the few weeks before we found out about the move.  The move has given me the opportunity to get it done!!  I’m sure there will be some things we don’t need that slip their way into the boxes, but overall I’m feeling pretty good.  I just hope that I can keep this up.  I want a clean apartment!  I want to know exactly what I’m making for dinner.  I want to know exactly what I need at the grocery store so there will be no more impulse purchases!

So, I’ll hopefully be posting here my progress on adjusting to a Big City and getting our lives/clutter under control!

I’m probably the last person to hear about this (I usually am).  At first, I wasn’t too sure what to think.  Goblins and Worgen?  Really?  But the more I read, the more intrigued I became.  I have to admit, I’m excited to see classic Azeroth change with the times.  A lot has happened since game launch story-wise and I think that aspect has a lot of potential.

I popped over to the World’s End Tavern (official RP forum) and I was rather pleased to see that not every RPer out there is bashing it.  The way I see it;  this is Blizzard’s thing.  If they want to add goblins and worgen, cool.  If they want to make Kalimdor and the Eastern Kingdoms erupt into a fiery pit of hell, I’m cool with that too.  I don’t take myself so seriously that I can’t enjoy a game just because Blizzard has decided to let the story evolve.
